The Pohang Steelers, who will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2023, will induct Kim Kwang-seok, Hwang Jin-sung, Shin Hwa-yong, and Hwang Ji-soo, all of whom have played more than 10 years and 200 matches for the club, into their Hall of Fame. This comes a decade after the team inducted 13 players into the club’s Hall of Fame, the first in the K League, on its 40th anniversary in 2013.
Kim Kwang-seok, who joined the club as a trainee in 2002, remained with Pohang for 19 years until 2020, the longest tenure of any player in the club’s history. He appeared in 385 K League games (9 goals, 5 assists), the most in the club’s history. Known as the “Anbang Manim of the Steel Yard” and a top center back, he retired from Incheon United this season, ending a 21-year career.
Affectionately known as “Hwang Kaka” by Pohang fans for his flashy technique and accurate left-footed kicks, the former Pohang youth product played 279 K League games (47 goals and 58 assists) in 11 years from 2003 to 2013. He holds the club record for most offensive points (105) and most assists, and was named to the 2012 K League Best 11. He is fourth on the club’s all-time list for most appearances.
Pohang’s “local boy” goalkeeper Shin Hwa-yong, nicknamed “Hwayongshin” for his 13-year career from 2004 to 2016, played in 287 K League matches. He holds the club record for most games played by a goalkeeper, most clean sheets (94), and was named to the 2009 K League Best 11. He is third on the club’s all-time appearances list.
Hwang Ji-soo, a “one-club man” synonymous with steadiness and integrity, scored six goals and provided 12 assists in 320 K League games over 14 years from 2004 to 2017. His gritty play earned him the nickname “Pohang’s Gattuso,” and he ranks second on the club’s all-time appearances list. Since retiring, he has been coaching the Pohang U-18 team.토토사이트
