“We’re going to change the culture. The players are doing a great job and I hope the fans and families will support them.” These were the promises and resolutions that Coach Gunadan made in front of the players’ families.
On June 16, Shinhan Bank Incheon held a homecoming day at Shinhan Bank Blue Campus, where the team’s family, friends, and fans were invited to introduce the new training facility.
In addition to touring the training facility, the invitees were able to watch the players in action as they practiced under Coach Gunadan’s guidance. Even in the presence of family members, Gunadan kept the training sessions rigorous. He would ask the players to make detailed movements to create chances, and he would keep them on their toes by saying, “Are you distracted because your family is here?”
At the end of training, Gunadan called not only the players but also their families onto the court to share their aspirations and resolutions. “I usually make training harder. The players all work hard to get one more minute on the court, and it means a lot to be able to invite their families to be a part of that process.”

When asked what he meant by ‘change’, Gunadan said, “I always want to pay attention to the details. Wins and losses are important, but more than that, the players should always feel proud to be part of the team. I will always try to make the players realize that they are part of the Shinhan Bank family. I want to put it into practice, not just words.”
Shinhan Bank has been turning heads since Gunadan took the helm. He was officially appointed as the head coach during the 2021-2022 season after the abrupt resignation of Jeong Sang-il and led the team to the playoffs. The previous season was also marked by concerns over the transfer of signature star Kim Dan-bi (Woori Bank), but the team finished fourth in the regular season and made the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
The 2023-2024 season is expected to be a tougher challenge for Shinhan Bank. The teams that failed to make the playoffs have all been reinforced.
