Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Miami Marlins’ Luis Arajuez, 26, is back to hitting .400. The two-time batting champion is looking to become the first player in 82 years to hit .400.

Araúez started at first base and went 5-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored against the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2023 MLB World Series at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida, on Tuesday.토토사이트

Araez, who was batting .388 prior to the game, quickly raised his batting average to .440 with his five-hit performance.

After winning the American League batting title last year with the Minnesota Twins, Araez joined Miami in the National League this year. He continued his steady performance in Miami, hitting .940 with four doubles, two home runs, 35 RBIs, and an OPS of .940 in 67 games. A bi-league batting title is not out of the question.

But what’s even more impressive is his 4-for-4 batting average.

Arajuez was hot from the start of the season, and he maintained a 4% slugging percentage through the beginning of May. But then he went 1-for-4 in four straight games, starting on May 7 against the Chicago Cubs, and then went 0-for-3 against the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 11, the first time he’s ever been below .400. He continued to go up and down until the end of May, finishing the month with a .381 batting average.

Araújo picked up the pace again in June. A multi-hit game against the Kansas City Royals on July 7 got him back into the .400s, but a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners from July 13-15 saw his batting average drop to .378, but he’s been on fire of late, returning to the .400s in three games.

According to ESPN, Araez, who remained on base through 73 of the team’s games this season, joined Norma Garciaparra (2000 season-91 games) as the hitters with the most games on base since 2000. However, no other hitter has ever finished an entire season with a .400 batting average. Garciaparra ended the season with a .372 average.

In MLB history, only one other player has ever hit .400. Not since 1941, when Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox finished the season with a .406 batting average. If Arajuez were to finish the season with his dream .406 batting average, it would be the first time in 82 years.
