Trace Thompson (32, LA Dodgers), younger brother of American professional basketball (NBA) superstar Klay Thompson (33, Golden State Warriors), will join the British team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC).
On the 4th (Korean time), WBC reporter Sean Spreading wrote the news of Thompson’s joining the British national team on his personal SNS.
The WBC can choose its participating countries based on their parental lineage as well as their own. Thompson is of American nationality, but his father’s descent from the British Bahamas allows him to join the England national team.
Thompson recorded a career high last year, eight years after his major league debut. In 80 games he played, he had a batting average of .256 (56-for-219) with 13 homers and 41 RBIs for an OPS of 0.860. In particular, he energized the Dodgers lineup with a slugging percentage of over 50% (0.507) and a multi-player capable of all outfield positions. In recognition of his performance, he gained a lot of experience, including joining the team’s postseason entry. 메이저사이트
Thompson is the only active major leaguer who has joined the British national team so far, and will contribute greatly to strengthening his lineup.
Other members of the British national team include Chris Reed (31, former Miami Marlins), Achill Morris (31, former New York Mets), Michael Ross (33, former San Francisco Giants), and Vance Worley (36, former Miami) who have major league experience. Harry Ford (20, Seattle Mariners), a top-notch prospect who stood out in Single A, is expected to join and form an entry.
Currently, Thompson is improving his physical condition by joining Team Spring Camp. He will subsequently join the England national team in time for the tournament. Group C, England, will be placed in the same group as the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Colombia, and will play the opening game in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
