After being released by the Toronto Blue Jays, infielder Paul DeJong is getting a new opportunity.

DeJong signed a major league contract with the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, according to USA Today Major League Baseball writer Bob Nightingale.

DeJong is expected to join the Giants’ roster a day later against Philadelphia.

DeJong was traded to Toronto from the St. Louis Cardinals at the trade deadline on Sunday.

Prior to the trade, he played for one team, St. Louis. In seven seasons, he batted .233 with a .305 on-base percentage and .426 slugging percentage in 698 games.

He finished second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2017 and was an All-Star in 2019.

DeJong will replace starting shortstop Brandon Crawford, who is currently on the disabled list with a left forearm strain.
