The All-Stars hit home runs at Dodger Stadium. Shohei Ohtani (LA Angels) did not hit a home run.

All-Stars Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, J.D. Martinez, and Will Smith all hit home runs. Ohtani started in the leadoff spot against the Dodgers and went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Dodgers starter Tony Gonsoli earned his fifth win of the season, allowing four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

Ohtani was out on a grounder to first base in the first inning. He tried to pull an 84-mph splitter off Dodgers starter Tony Gonsoli, but it rolled in front of the first baseman.

The Dodgers took the lead in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by Freddie Freeman. His 16th home run of the season. Max Muncy then made a jumping catch in front of center fielder Joe Adeli Fence to knock the ball over the fence.

The Dodgers struck again in the second inning. J.D. Martinez made it 2-0 with a solo home run over the left field fence, his 21st of the season.

In the third inning, another Dodger hitter opened the home run cannon, this time Mookie Betts. Betts made it 3-0 with a solo home run to center field (his 24th of the season). Two batters later, Will Smith singled and Muncy walked to put runners on first and second, and Martinez hit a two-run double to right to make it 4-0.The Angels answered back in the fourth. Ohtani led off with a single to right, and Taylor Ward’s grounder to short was fumbled by Betts at second and thrown to first for the out. However, the Angels challenged the play and it was overturned as a save. With runners on first and second, Mickey Moniak hit a three-run homer over the right field fence (his 10th of the season) to make it 4-3.

The Dodgers’ home run barrage continued. Betts led off the fifth inning with a solo home run (his 25th of the season) that cleared the left field wall like a bullet. It hit 107.8 mph and had a 22-degree launch angle. Back-to-back home runs.

Ohtani led off the sixth inning with a walk, but the next batter retired him on an infield single and a strikeout. Two batters later, Eduardo Escobar singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. Adel struck out to end the threat.The Dodgers extended their lead in the sixth inning. Two batters later, James Outman singled to right and Miguel Rojas drew a walk. Betts hit a two-run double to left, bringing home both runners. It was 7-3.

The Angels got one back in the seventh on Mike Moustakas’ solo home run, his sixth of the season, to make it 7-4. One out later, Matt Tice led off with a single and the next batter’s infield grounder loaded the bases. Ohtani stepped to the plate for the fourth time. The Dodgers pulled Gonsolin and replaced him with Alex Vecchia. Ohtani looked at a 95.1-mph fastball and struck out on three pitches.The Dodgers got another big inning in the eighth. Vargas led off with a walk, and one out later, Rojas hit a two-run double to left to make it 8-4. Betts, who had two homers, walked and stole second on an automatic double play.

The pitcher caught Freeman’s grounder and threw to second for the second out, but the shortstop’s throw to first got away, allowing Rojas to score. Will Smith blasted a two-run home run (his 13th of the season) over the left-center field fence to make it 11-4.
