San Diego Padres’ Ha-Sung Kim, 28, came in as a pinch-hitter but did not record a hit.

Kim went 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Monday (June 21). Kim, whose batting average dropped slightly to 2-for-6 (80-for-304) on the season, had a 15-game hitting streak snapped. San Diego suffered an 0-4 scoreless loss. The loss ended a short two-game winning streak.

Starting pitcher Blake Snell took the loss, allowing one run on five hits and seven walks with four strikeouts in five innings. At the plate, Xander Bogaerts led the way with three hits, but the rest of the bats failed to deliver. San Diego’s bats were limited to a scattered six hits.

Toronto starter Chris Bassitt picked up his 10th win of the season with six innings of four-hit ball, one walk and five strikeouts. The bullpen of Tim Mayza (one scoreless inning), Eric Swanson (one scoreless inning) and Jordan Romano (one scoreless inning) preserved the win. At the plate, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (15th of the season) and Alejandro Kirk (4th of the season) hit home runs.

Toronto took the lead in the bottom of the second when Santiago Espinal walked and Alejandro Kirk singled to put runners on second and third and Jordan Rufflow followed with an RBI single. There was a brief lull after that, with neither team scoring.

In the top of the seventh, after Trent Grisham drew a walk, San Diego brought in Ha-Sung Kim to pinch-hit for Alfonso Rivas with one out, but Kim hit a three-pitch 85.1 mph (137.0 km/h) slider from Toronto reliever Tim Mayza for a double.

In the bottom of the seventh, Toronto got back on the board with a solo home run by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. In the eighth, Espinal singled and Kirk followed with a two-run homer to put the game out of reach.
