The main draw for the 2023 Women’s Baseball Asian Cup (BFA) in Hong Kong has been finalized.

Korea has been drawn into Group B alongside Indonesia, who have also qualified for the Asian Cup, which is currently being held in Hong Kong. The Koreans will open their campaign against Japan at 12:00 p.m. (ET) on June 26, followed by their second game against Indonesia at 10:00 a.m. on June 27, and their third game against the Philippines at 10:00 a.m. on June 28.

Only the top two teams from the group stage will advance to the Super Round. Japan, the No. 1-ranked team in women’s baseball, will likely finish first in Group B, while South Korea (No. 10) and the Philippines (No. 14) will battle for second place.

In fact, the last game of the group is the most important. The Philippines finished third in their last tournament, the 2019 BFA Cup, ahead of South Korea.

Yang Sang-moon’s women’s team has a realistic goal of finishing second in their group and advancing to the Super Round. They only need to finish in the top four at the Asian Cup to qualify for the World Baseball Classic, which is scheduled to take place in August, meaning they will qualify for the Super Round.

Once in the Super Round, the teams will play three games each before the medal colors are decided. “Our priority is to advance to the Super Round,” said national team coach Yang Sang-moon. We won’t lose any sleep over our first game against Japan,” Yang said, adding, “We will definitely return home with a medal after advancing to the Super Round.”

The team will depart Incheon International Airport on UO Flight 619 on the morning of June 24 and return home on June 2 on UO Flight 626 at around 10 p.m.
